Employees visit LOA Preschool for Community Helper Day

In case you missed it in the newspaper:

Dr. Craig Colby and Brittany Jackson, who work together at TenderCare Clinic of Lake Oconee, visited the preschool at Lake Oconee Academy on February 12th. Dr. Colby’s daughter, Lillie Mae, and Brittany’s son, Jayace, are in the same classroom, so they received a special visit from their parents as part of Community Helper Day. Colby works as a family medicine doctor and rotates as a hospitalist at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, and Brittany, who holds a diploma degree in phlebotomy, is a medical assistant full-time at the Lake Oconee office.

Dr. Colby showed the students his doctor’s bag and the different tools that are used in the doctor’s office, such as a stethoscope and a thermometer. Brittany demonstrated to the students how she takes blood pressure and temperature as a nurse, showing them that visiting the doctor is not scary.

Each child had a chance to participate in an activity where one had a mock “illness” that another student would treat. Some students had swallowed pennies or gotten items stuck in their ears, while others sprained their wrists or needed wart removals. Each scenario showed the children that visiting the doctor helps you feel better when you are sick. The children loved playing pretend doctor, but they also learned all about the doctor’s office and the roles of community helpers in the medical field.

Walk to Wellness program starts March 11

TenderCare Clinic has partnered with St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital for the third year in a row to provide Walk to Wellness, a six-week walking program. Walk to Wellness helps our patients and community become healthier, one step at a time! Studies show that brisk walking for 30 minutes to an hour every day helps to lower blood pressure and reduce risk for various conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes, as well as maintain a healthy weight.

The program will start with a pre-assessment: collecting simple health information such as blood pressure reading, weight, and BMI. For the following six weeks, the group will meet to walk together and encourage each other. After the six weeks of walking, the health data will be collected again so participants can see how the daily walking improved their overall health. Walking together with others in a supportive group helps everyone be more motivated to exercise.

The pre-assessment will be on Monday, March 11th at TenderCare Clinic of Greensboro. Walking will be every Monday-Thursday from 5:00pm – 6:00pm at Robinson Park in Greensboro (409 E Bush St), from Tuesday, March 12th to Wednesday, April 17th. The post-assessment will be on Thursday, April 18th at TenderCare.

If you are interested in the program, please contact Bria Brown at 706-453-5167 or Laura Ringer at 706-454-5183. Even if you are not able to join us to walk every day, please come out to Robinson Park on the days that you can make it! Start your steps towards healthier habits by signing up today!

TenderCare Clinic gains new leadership under Dr. Dave Ringer

The TenderCare Clinic Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dave A. Ringer, MD, CPE, FAAFP as the new Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Ringer is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia with a Doctor of Medicine, and he also holds an Executive Certificate in Business Management from John Hopkins University. Dr. Ringer owned Family Medical Associates of Lake Oconee for 22 years before joining his practice with TenderCare Clinic in 2011. He has served as the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operations Officer in the company for multiple years, allowing him to gain experience in management and use his knowledge learned from John Hopkins University. Dr. Ringer has been devoted to the community in Greene County from the very beginning of his medical career, and he is now looking forward to leading TenderCare Clinic and continuing the tradition of excellent care to the community.

With this change, Dr. Ringer appoints a new leadership team to assist him with day-to-day operations and staff management. This leadership team consists of a Chief Operating Officer, Mary Kate Dauler, a Chief Financial Officer, Stephanie Myers, and a Chief Clinical Officer, Carri Thomas.

Mary Kate Dauler came to TenderCare Clinic with years of experience from The Farmers Bank. Since coming on board in 2016, she has been promoted from Executive Assistant to Director of Administrative Services due to her being a quick learner and a natural born leader. Dauler works heavily in grants management and administration, securing the funding for clinical operations and new services. Dauler will be an instrumental member of the leadership team as she manages the day-to-day operations in the administrative and billing offices as the Chief Operating Officer.

Stephanie Myers, MAcc, RN, is a graduate of Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Accountancy. She then returned to school and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Myers has worked at TenderCare Clinic for over a year as the Clinical Care Manager, coordinating all nursing home patients as well as employee health. Before she became a Registered Nurse, Myers worked at Robert A. Reynolds, CPA as an accountant and also did accounting work for Waddell and Associates. Myers’ training as an accountant, combined with her medical experience, makes her a perfect fit for being the Chief Financial Officer in a healthcare setting.

Carri Thomas has worked with TenderCare Clinic since 2011 and was employed at Family Medical Associates of Lake Oconee before the practices were joined. Thomas started as a Medical Assistant, gaining years of experience in the office setting. She was then promoted to Office Manager at the Lake Oconee office, obtaining experience in staff management. Thomas was then promoted to Clinical Quality Coordinator, and then again to be the Director of Clinical Services. She is currently taking business management classes from Valdosta State University. Thomas oversees operations and employees in all four medical offices and will now also be overseeing dental and pharmacy services as the Chief Clinical Officer.

The walk will be Saturday, October 13 from 5-9 PM at Tiger Stadium (Greene County High School football field and track). Health Fair at TenderCare Clinic draws crowd despite rain

Despite the dreary weather on April 7th, the 2nd Annual TenderCare Clinic Health Fair turned out well. Over 20 vendors were set up in the high school gym, all passing out health-related materials and informing the community about services and resources in the area. In addition to the TenderCare tables (medical screenings, dental screenings, pharmacy information, insurance information, women’s health, mental health, and preschool), a wide variety of organizations were present to promote healthy lifestyles. Many people were interested in the interactive stations that encouraged them to take a part in their own health: the common allergen screenings by The Allergy, Asthma, and Sinus Center, the rapid HIV testing by the Northeast Health District, and the chiropractic screenings by Franks Chiropractic Life Center. The sponsors of the health fair were also at the event: Oconee Cancer Care (gold), Humana (silver), and St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital (bronze).

TenderCare Clinic aims to host the health fair every spring to bring awareness to the community about the importance of health. Being knowledgeable about the resources available to you is crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. As always, TenderCare Clinic has multiple services and locations to take care of families in the community. All insurances are accepted including Medicare and Medicaid, and discount program is available for eligible patients. You may call TenderCare Clinic at 706-453-1201 to schedule an appointment or learn more about the health fair.
